Miss Earth Congo, a Celebration of Beauty and Strength

RALIEGH, NORTH CAROLINA, UNITED STATES, May 5, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Organized beauty contests are about much more than appreciating the beauty and intelligence of talented young women. The Miss Earth Pageant offers a global stage to promote environmental awareness and conservation. The Miss Earth Pageant rivals both the Miss Universe and Miss World contests in terms of the number of national-level qualifying events. The Miss Earth contest is one of the most publicized beauty contests in the world and is televised in 189 countries across the globe. For the first time in history both the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Congo will be represented at the Pageant. The Miss Earth Congo pageant will determine Miss Earth Congo DR and Miss Republic Congo as these women will be given the historic opportunity to compete on a worldwide stage.

The Miss Earth Congo Pageant will feature 15 native-born Congolese contestants between the ages of 18 to 25. The pageant will take place from July 28th to August 1st at the Ritz Raleigh in Raleigh, North Carolina. The event will show the diverse beauty and tenacity of Congolese women as they attempt to qualify for the Miss Earth Pageant. This competition is significant not only for the prestige of the Miss Earth contest but also for the Congo nations themselves. It has been said that it is more dangerous to be a woman in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Congo than it is to be a soldier. Women are often seen as targets which is deplorable and needs to stop. Congolese women regularly face the threat of violence of both a sexual and non-sexual nature. The numbers are staggering. Since the year 2000 over two million women have been raped in the Democratic Republic of Congo. There is a societal belief in both Congo nations that women are inferior to men in their place in the community. This ingrained belief has often restricted women from receiving an education. This lack of opportunity helps facilitate a cycle of violence and stunts the growth of women in society. The Miss Earth Congo Pageant is a way to change this perception by empowering women. The pageant will raise awareness on the issues of environmental degradation such as global warming and climate change. It will send a powerful statement about the plight faced by the women in the two Congo nations and throughout all of Africa.

Miss Earth Congo beauties do not just stand out for being beautiful. The winner of the Miss Earth Pageant is a gorgeous woman who will be given a cause as she dedicates her year to promoting environmental protection and important global issues. Not only will the pageant aim to give women an opportunity to gain a scholarship but Miss Earth becomes the spokesperson for the United Nations Environment Programme and the Miss Earth Foundation. In this way the winner spreads the word of peace and proper conservation techniques. Likewise Miss Earth Congo DR and Miss Republic Congo will be given time to help initiatives to help clean up the Congo environment. The Miss Earth Congo Pageant partners with both government and non-government agencies based in the United States. These women will work closely with the respective Departments of Education in both nations in order to promote environmental solutions and support communities. An important example of improving the welfare of communities is the issue of bringing food and clean water to these nations.

The Miss Earth Congo Pageant is a real opportunity to create Congolese role models for women who live in countries that need them in order to support gender equality. It is also a rare opportunity to showcase issues Congolese women face on an international stage. In order to promote this important event there is an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign taking place until June 11th. As part of this exciting campaign, a crowdfunding donation of 20 dollars will come with a Miss Earth Congo tee shirt. Those who make a pledge of 30 dollars will receive a special digital download of the Miss Earth Congo Peace Pageant 2015. Beauty contest enthusiasts will be able to receive VIP access to this exciting event for a donation of only 75 dollars.
