A brave teenager who lost her battle with a brain tumour earlier this month will help other youngsters be cured after thousands of pounds were raised in her memory.

Ciara Allan, from Islay, died aged just 16 after battling serious illness since she was two.

To honour the fundraising work Ciara did before her death, her family set up a crowdfunding page to help the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity raise money for the Schiehallion Appeal, a partnership with the Daily Record.

The page has already raised more than £11,000 to help fund clinical trials for young cancer and blood disorder patients.

Thanking those who donated, mum Lloret said: “We always knew Ciara was a very special person and it’s of great comfort to us to know so many people thought so too. She met life head on with such optimism and enthusiasm. She will be forever missed but never ever forgotten.”

The schoolgirl suffered a severe stroke as a toddler which left her paralysed down her left side and having to learn to walk and talk again.

The determined teenager endured eight major brain ops, four rounds of chemotherapy and three months of proton beam radiotherapy in the USA which stopped her daily epileptic seizures in their tracks almost five years ago.

But a massive brain bleed last year left her fighting for survival and once again paralysed on her left side. A main artery growing through Ciara’s tumour meant it couldn’t be removed completely and although it was originally benign, cancerous cells were discovered during an op in 2010.

Despite her illness, Ciara was determined to help others and backed an appeal last year to fund a pioneering endoscope which would allow surgeons to view the brain more clearly and revolutionise treatment for young people across the country.
